The Steed!

Lets get this started then with my bike! I ride a 2013 medium carbon Bronson and I might as well bore you all with the spec seeing as most people reading this blog will be bikers and therefore know what on earth I'm blathering about! I only have one bike, I'm not like some people and have lots of different bikes for different occasions and different areas, my bike must cope everywhere even though this sometimes means I'm over biked or even under biked.

Frame : Santa Cruz Bronson Carbon Medium
Wheels : Chris King Pink Hubs/Stans Arch, Magic Mary supergravity trailstar tyres.
Brakes : Hope Tech 3 E4 purple
Forks : Pike RCT3 150mm
Bars : Raceface Sixc Carbon Bars 760mm
Drivetrain : XT rear mech, XTR shifter, Race face sixc cranks, race face N/W 30T chainring, hope 40t-rex adapter, xt cassette, superstar nano pedals, Chris King BB.
Seat post : Stealth Rock shock Reverb.

I hear a lot of mixed reviews over santa cruz bikes, people seem to have both misconceptions and stereotyping when it comes to santa cruz bikes. I'm not going to attempt to remove these 'theories' or defend them, I'll just be sharing my own experiences. I've ridden Specialised, Santa Cruz and Lapierre and can only comment on those particular models within those brands. I will NEVER pass judgement on a bike I've not tried as its unfair and its like trying to explain to someone what chicken tastes like, its all personal! I was pretty happy with my zesty 314L and found it climbed better than any bike I've tried, the majority of the time you didnt need to bother locking the rear shock out as the bob was so minimal, however I found it lacked the ability to go downhill the way other bikes did and so I returned to the santa cruz fold. I've always liked how santa cruz bikes ride and always like the general styling and thats why I return time and time again.
I've owned the Bronson since October 2011 and since then have covered just shy of 500 miles, all off road. According to my local shop of choice I'm their first user to wear through the fox shock bushes and they shift a lot of santa cruz bikes! I also use my Bronson twice as much as any other user... their words not mine! You may have noticed that my Bronson looks a little bit different to other models from the year. It should have orange and blue decals but I've never been a fan of them and I like to try and stamp my personal mark on frames so I had these custom decals made up from a company in Canada, it looks a bit different now! I'm really happy with how it looks and Ive since added a hope purple seat clamp and custom purple stans stickers. I just need to pick some new pedals as I've had the superstar pedals for a good few years now and the colour is really fading on them but its a toss up between which pedals I pick and in fact which colour I pick. Then that'll be it with the colour scheme..... honest!

Another trip to the biking Mecca of Scotland!

So I have to admit I have a soft spot for Scotland, I used to go every year as a child to varying places throughout Scotland and I'm currently applying for some jobs in Scotland so I can make the move permanent, I'd love to become a bike mechanic and based out of Scotland but that doesn't make enough money to sustain myself and Ziva. I've been biking to Scotland many times but its been a year or two now since my last visit so it was time to visit some new places as well as some already fond places! I booked a cottage staying in Errogie on the south side of Loch Ness, just outside of Inverness so it's still good for fuel and food etc. but outside of the city so a lot quieter, no neighbours for about half a mile just the way I like it! There were only the three of us staying, all bikers but they joined me as the week went on so not all three came to all the locations, at times it was just Ziva and myself! 1. Whinlatter - okay so its not technically Scotland but when...

GolfChick goes to Whistler!!

So I was lucky enough to travel to Whistler at the end of September for two weeks, to cut a long story short my best friend 'Buly' was planning to go and rather than go alone he invited me! It's not somewhere I'd ever really planned to go despite it being a mecca for biking, probably because I knew it was out of my reach to ever go and why hope/plan for the impossible!? I've done Les Arcs before in the French Alps but that was some years ago and I just remember concentrating on braking the whole time but I was fairly new to biking back then and I'm sure it'd be a different beast now! I'd of loved to do some other trips in the meantime but due to some circumstances, owning a dog mostly, I've not done another trip...until now! Hopefully this blog post will fill people in about some of the mistakes I made, as well as things I learnt along the way and also providing a general review of Whistler! I don't want to come across as knowing everything o...
